Russia and the United States need to agree on the limitation of strategic offensive arms (START Treaty). This will be "acceptable and useful", otherwise "there will be nothing left in the field of arms deterrence", Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced his point of view during a press conference following a working visit to Tajikistan.

He stressed that the time remaining before the START Treaty expires is sufficient for an agreement on its extension.
