In Russia, they plan to set a standard of 18 square meters of the total living space for the maintenance of one adult dog or cat. The relevant bill has been submitted to the State Duma for consideration. The document is published in the Duma database.

In the explanatory note to the draft law, it is noted that when determining the standard of living space for animals, both their physiological characteristics and the practical aspects of their maintenance in an apartment building were taken into account. An exception was made for guide dogs, the norm of the law will not apply to them.

In addition, the draft law provides for a deadline for the maintenance of the offspring of this animal. Care of puppies or kittens is allowed for six months.

It is assumed that a single federal norm of 18 "squares" will be applied in all regions, while the regions will be given the right to establish additional, more stringent requirements, taking into account local peculiarities.
