Amid a decline in housing construction, the market for household goods and repairs is losing 3.5%

According to the results of the second half of 2025, the turnover of the Russian market of household goods and repairs will amount to 3.52 trillion rubles. A year-on-year decline is expected at 3.5%. This forecast was announced by Infoline analysts, reports"Kommersant".

Market experts have recorded negative trends in the segment back in the spring of this year, by now the situation has worsened. In the first half of 2025, total sales of the largest DIY chains decreased by 1% year-on-year, to 532.1 billion rubles, while a year earlier there was an increase of 14.6%.

The main reason for the reduction in demand for finishing materials is considered to be a decrease in housing construction, including residential housing, caused by a high key interest rate.

According to Rosstat, in January-August 2025, the volume of housing starts across the country decreased to 67.5 million square meters, by 5% year-on-year. Of these, apartment buildings account for 20.2 million square meters (-6% YoY), private houses - 47.3 million square meters (-5%).
