The government was asked to set maximum retail prices for motor fuel

A group of State Duma deputies proposed to introduce measures against a significant increase in motor fuel prices during a period of increased demand. This is reported by TASS with reference to the relevant appeal.

The authors of the initiative draw attention to the fact that in the last week the price growth rate reached the highest levels since the beginning of 2025 - 9.22% and is already twice as fast as the official inflation in the country. Agricultural producers are primarily affected by this.

"Given the fact that natural monopolies operate in the fuel market, such a significant price increase in such a short period of time raises many questions," the appeal emphasizes.

In this regard, the government is proposed to provide a mechanism for regulating prices for gasoline and diesel fuel and to set maximum allowable retail prices for them by analogy with socially important essential goods.

The authors of the initiative also request that suppliers of motor fuel be checked for compliance with antimonopoly legislation.
