The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposes to expand the list of grocery and other food products subject to mandatory labeling. According to the agency, the relevant draft decree of the Government of the Russian Federation has already been developed.
According to the document, from March 1, 2026, the list of certain types of grocery products in consumer packaging subject to mandatory labeling will include cereals, cereals, legumes and other products of the milling and cereal industry, which are used in food after heat treatment. The list will also include instant potatoes and cereal products for breakfast (including those that do not require heat treatment), honey and products based on it, bee products and even artificial honey.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia assumes that the innovation will reduce the volume of illicit trafficking in groceries, prevent its harmful impact on the development of the social sphere and the economy, as well as make information about the above-mentioned goods more accessible, and ensure transparency of commodity markets.
For consumers, labeling of these products will provide an opportunity to obtain all the necessary information about the product, check it for the legality of being in circulation and, if necessary, file a complaint about the identified signs of violations. The implementation of the initiative will contribute to increasing the share of bona fide manufacturers in the market, reducing costs through the introduction of electronic document management and access to data on manufactured and imported products, the source explained.
