The new 500-ruble notes will be ready by the second half of 2026, and will enter the usual life of citizens no earlier than 2027. Sergey Belov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta about this in an interview.
According to Belov, on the new 500 rubles we will see the symbols of the first and second plans, they will set the main theme, background images and micro-nozzles that will continue this theme. However, it is important that the new money is not only beautiful, but also protected from counterfeiting.
Why is it taking so long for the country to see banknotes in a new design? To this, the deputy chairman of the Central Bank explained that banks need time to upgrade their ATMs and other equipment to work with the new banknote. As a rule, it takes up to a year and a half.
As for the old 500-ruble notes, they will remain in circulation and will gradually come out of circulation as they wear out naturally.
Also, Sergey Belov adds, the Central Bank is already making plans to update the next banknotes. First, these will be banknotes with a face value of 50 rubles, then 10 rubles. In addition, work is nearing completion on 1,000 and 500 rubles. In particular, the design of the 1,000-ruble bill has already been approved, and a sketch is currently being developed that citizens will be able to see by the end of this year.
