Russia has approved a new GOST for beer

Rosstandart has approved a new national GOST for beer, for the first time since 2012. This is reported with reference to the order of the department "Kommersant".

The new beer standard is due to enter into force in early 2027, with the right to early application. Its development has been carried out since 2019 on the initiative of the Union of Russian Brewers and with the participation of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of the Brewing, Non-alcoholic and Wine Industry.

The new standard introduces beer identification criteria for the first time, which will help combat counterfeiting. According to him, beer can be considered products, at least 80% of the raw materials of which should form malt, 20% - unsalted products, 2% of which are sugar-containing.

According to the accepted standard, beer can only be called brewing products, the ethyl alcohol in which is formed by fermentation of beer wort from malt, hops or hop products. The inclusion of alcohol, flavorings and the like in its composition is not allowed. At the same time, brewers are allowed to use not only barley and wheat straw, but also rye, buckwheat and other types of it.
