The EU countries have agreed on the 17th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation and will now begin work on the next package of restrictions. This was announced to journalists by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, before the meeting of the foreign ministers and the Ministry of Defense of the EU countries in Brussels.
"Today we have agreed on the 17th package of sanctions, but we continue to work on the next package of strong sanctions," she said.
Kallas stressed that Brussels was disappointed with the results of the conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States in the framework of negotiations on Ukraine and the lack of pressure from the United States on Russia.
"We did not see any pressure on Russia during these negotiations," Kallas said, noting that the EU, for its part, would continue to put pressure on Moscow.
She also said that an intelligence report on the state of the Russian economy will be presented at the EU Council on Foreign Affairs today. The EU is confident that "the effect of sanctions will be even greater in the coming months."
