By July 1, foreign buyers of Russian gas will be able to pay for supplies through any Russian bank, not just Gazprombank. The corresponding decree on the extension of the permit expiring on April 1 was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Until July 1, 2025, the obligation to pay for natural gas supplies by a foreign buyer is considered duly fulfilled if funds are credited in rubles to a ruble account opened by a Russian supplier with a Russian credit institution," the document says.

The decree comes into force from the date of its official publication.

The procedure for payments for Russian gas by foreign buyers was established in March 2022 against the background of the introduction of US sanctions against Gazprombank. Prior to this, foreign buyers of Russian gas had to pay for supplies exclusively in rubles and only through Gazprombank.
