The total number of foreign citizens residing in the Russian Federation annually is 6-7 million people. This is reported by TASS with reference to data from the Department of permissive work and external labor Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
About 90% of the total number of foreign citizens are legally in the country, while the rest are staying in the Russian Federation illegally.
Most of the foreign citizens staying in Russia (80%) are from the CIS countries, 60% of whom are citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
Among those who arrived in Russia last year, 37% have a goal - employment, 4% - for study, 6% - as tourists, and 29.8% - with private visits.
