Chicken and Turkey Prices Surge in Russia Amid Rising Production Costs

In August, the price of poultry meat in Russia increased sharply, with chicken prices rising by 15.8% year-on-year to 263.6 rubles per kilogram ($3.50 USD), and turkey prices jumping by 15.1% to 645 rubles per kilogram ($8.55 USD), according to Kommersant, citing data from Rosstat (the Russian Federal State Statistics Service).

This is not the first month of rising poultry prices. In June, the year-on-year increase in chicken prices was estimated at 5%, and in July it was 13.4%. For turkey, the price increase was 9% in June and 11.8% in July.

Retail prices are following wholesale prices. By mid-September, the wholesale price of broiler chickens had risen by 18% year-on-year, chicken drumsticks by 20%, and chicken fillets and thighs by 28%.

Market participants attribute the price increases to higher production costs, including feed, logistics, fuel, and labor expenses.
