Russian thermal coal price hits highest level since late 2023

Russian thermal coal (with a calorific value of 5500 kcal per kg) at the Vostochny Port has risen to $106.1 per ton, the highest level since late 2023, according to data from NEFT Research cited by Kommersant.

Since the beginning of 2026, the price of thermal coal at Vostochny Port has increased by 47.3%, and since September 2025, it has risen by 57.5%. Experts attribute the price hike to logistical disruptions and the high cost of competing products amid the conflict in the Middle East.
