By the end of August 2026, the stock market capitalization in Russia reached 42.2 trillion rubles, with the market capitalization to GDP ratio falling to 19.5%, according to the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) in its draft financial market development strategy through 2029.

The regulator highlights the mixed performance of the stock market in recent years. In 2022, amid worsening geopolitical conditions, the market capitalization dropped by 38.9% compared to 2021, reaching 38.2 trillion rubles. In 2023, there was a partial recovery (+49% from 2022 levels, to 57 trillion rubles), but since 2024, the market has been declining again (on average -3.9% per year).
