--- Russia to Address Housing Construction in Flood-Prone Areas Nikita Stasishin, Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Utilities, announced at the Eastern Economic Forum that the issue of housing construction in flood-prone areas will be regulated. "We will take a more balanced approach to ensure that both residential and non-residential buildings are constructed in a way that is safe from potential flooding. This is primarily a matter for the regions. No regional corporation can solve this problem alone. However, no one will be left in limbo; all obligations taken by companies to banks and individuals will be fulfilled, and all projects will be completed," Stasishin was quoted as saying by TASS. He emphasized that out of the 74 million square meters of housing currently under construction in Russia, 65 million square meters fall under the direct regulation of the Water Code. "As for the registration of individual housing construction, Rosreestr (Russian Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography) continues to register properties where possible under Federal Law No. 218. We are now refining our approach to individual housing construction and will introduce amendments. This will in no way affect the safety of people living in flood-prone areas," Stasishin added, noting that the work will take into account the negative experience in Dagestan.
