Economic Crime Damage in Russia More Than Doubles Year-on-Year

In the first half of 2026, the total damage caused by economic crimes in Russia amounted to 328 billion rubles (approximately $4.1 billion), comparable to the annual budget of one Russian region, Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan announced at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2026).

Compared to the same period last year, the damage from economic crimes has more than doubled. In 2025, the figure stood at 126 billion rubles (approximately $1.6 billion).

Additionally, Gutsan noted a significant decrease in the recovery of damages. This year, only 7% of the losses were recovered, compared to nearly 40% in the previous year.
