### Russian GDP Grows by 1.3% in Q2 2026, Driven by Retail and Manufacturing
The Russian economy expanded by 1.3% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to data released by Rosstat (the Federal State Statistics Service). This followed a 0.2% contraction in the first quarter.
The main drivers of growth in Q2 were retail trade (+7.2%), wholesale trade (+2.4%), catering services (+6.2%), freight transportation (+2.5%), and manufacturing (+2%).
However, passenger transportation (-2.3%), mining (-1.9%), construction (-1.6%), and agriculture (-1.5%) all saw declines.
The Ministry of Economic Development estimates that the economy grew by 0.6% in the first half of 2026 year-on-year. The growth in Q2 was driven by robust domestic demand and positive dynamics in several key sectors. An important factor in the recovery was the gradual easing of monetary and credit conditions.
