Russian Blogger Gusein Gasanov Convicted In Absentia for Money Laundering

Russian blogger Gusein Gasanov has been convicted in absentia of money laundering and sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of 1 million rubles ($13,000) by the Presnensky District Court in Moscow, according to TASS.

The prison term will start from the moment of his arrest or extradition to Russia.

Additionally, the court ordered the seizure of a non-residential property in the Presnensky district worth 46 million rubles ($600,000) in favor of the state.

Prosecutors had requested a six-year prison sentence during the trial. According to the investigation and court findings, Gasanov, as an individual entrepreneur, failed to pay taxes amounting to over 170 million rubles ($2.2 million). He used part of these funds to purchase real estate worth more than 68 million rubles ($880,000).
