Putin signs decree legalizing cryptocurrency circulation in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree legalizing the circulation of cryptocurrencies in Russia.

The document grants Russian legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, included in a relevant registry, the right to engage in cryptocurrency mining. Additionally, mining of digital currency is permitted for individuals without a business status and not listed in the registry, provided they do not exceed energy consumption limits set by the government.

Regulation and oversight in this area will be carried out by the Bank of Russia. The law will come into effect on September 1, 2026.
