Cattle Herd in Novosibirsk Region Shrinks by 15% in First Half of Year

In Novosibirsk Region, where an outbreak of pasteurellosis occurred in winter 2026, the cattle herd decreased by 13.3% year-on-year in the first half of the year, reaching 310,900 heads, according to data from Novosibirskstat, as reported by Interfax.

Specifically, the number of cows fell by 14.7% to 127,500 heads, sheep and goats by 21.6% to 118,300 heads, and pigs by 10.3% to 315,500 heads. The poultry population increased by 1.2% to 9.5 million.

In agricultural organizations not classified as small businesses, the cattle herd decreased by 12.1%, sheep and goats by 2.5%, while the poultry population increased by 3%.

Livestock production also declined: 103,400 tons of livestock and poultry were produced for slaughter in live weight (-2.9%), 362,500 tons of milk (-14.2%), and 441.6 million eggs (-2.1%).
