From 2016 to 2026, the size of the maternity capital for a second child increased 2.1 times, from 453,000 rubles to 963,000 rubles. However, its purchasing power for housing fell by 38% over this period, report "Vedomosti" citing data from Rosstat and the Social Fund of Russia.

Over the same period, housing prices rose 3.4 times. According to calculations, in 2016, the maternity capital could buy 8.4 square meters of housing, while in 2026, it could only purchase 5.2 square meters.
