By July 1, 2026, the average retail price of beef in Russia reached 744.9 rubles ($9.3) per kilogram, marking a 15.58% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from Rosstat, the Russian Federal State Statistics Service, cited by Kommersant.

Beef was the fastest-growing product in the basket of Russian consumers. Chicken prices rose by 7.31% to 243.78 rubles ($3.05) per kilogram, pork by 1.9% to 392.22 rubles ($4.9) per kilogram, and mutton by 0.08% to 815.53 rubles ($10.2) per kilogram. Additionally, prices increased for canned meat for baby food (+6.41%, to 1,300 rubles ($16.25) per kilogram), semi-cooked and cooked-cured sausages (+3.61%, to 724.33 rubles ($9.05) per kilogram), boiled sausage (+2.72%, to 576.62 rubles ($7.2) per kilogram), and sausages and frankfurters (+2.71%, to 550.6 rubles ($6.9) per kilogram).

Market participants noted that beef production remains the most expensive among the main types of meat due to the long production cycle. It takes up to 18 months to raise a calf, compared to 40 days for a broiler chicken and 8 months for a pig.

Producers attributed the price increase to rising costs of feed, fuel, veterinary drugs, and labor. Additionally, the cattle herd decreased by 3.9% from the beginning of the year, and beef production fell by 5.7% year-on-year.
