The Russian government will allocate additional funding to the Volgograd, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, and Saratov regions for the modernization of public transport systems. Over the next three years, 10.8 billion rubles (approximately $135 million) will be provided for this purpose.
A significant portion of the funds—over 5.5 billion rubles—will be distributed to the regions this year. The funding will allow for the purchase of new domestic-made rolling stock, as well as the implementation of projects to create and modernize necessary engineering infrastructure.
The initiative aims at a comprehensive upgrade of urban transport systems, including the acquisition of modern buses, trolleybuses, trams, and electric buses. The program is expected to improve the quality of passenger transportation and enhance transport accessibility in major urban areas.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted that the modernization of public transport has a significant impact on urban development. He stated that the introduction of modern vehicles contributes to the expansion of routes, reduction of travel time, and improvement of passenger comfort.
The head of government also emphasized that the modernization of the transport complex positively affects the ecological situation in cities, thanks to the use of more modern and environmentally friendly modes of transport.
Federal support will be part of ongoing efforts to update regional transport infrastructure and improve urban mobility in Russian regions.
