Former General Director of Solnechnogorsk Electromechanical Plant (SEMZ), Igor Didyk, has been arrested in Moscow over alleged misconduct in the execution of a state defense contract, according to Kommersant. The Lефortovo District Court ordered his detention for two months, as confirmed by the Moscow City Court documents.
Didyk, who led SEMZ from February 2021 to December 2023, is charged with abuse of authority in the implementation of a state defense order under Article 201.1 of the Russian Criminal Code. The statute provides for penalties ranging from a substantial fine to up to eight years in prison.
SEMZ, established in 1974, gained prominence during the Soviet era for producing electronic games such as "Nu, pogodi!" (an iconic game in the Soviet Union) and later the "Elektronika" series of personal computers, which were supplied to educational institutions across the country.
In recent years, SEMZ has focused on manufacturing radio-electronic equipment and special-purpose machinery, including satellite communication stations, aerological radars, and communication complexes. Its customers include entities within the defense-industrial complex, such as Radél Scientific and Design Bureau (Federal State Unitary Enterprise), Pulsar Scientific and Production Enterprise, and divisions of the Federal Protective Service of Russia (FSO) responsible for special communications and information.
Preliminary information suggests that the criminal case was initiated due to alleged violations in the execution of a contract related to deliveries for the defense sector.
