Experts have begun assessing the damage inflicted on the regional air traffic control center in Rostov-on-Don. The inspection is necessary to determine the feasibility of restoring damaged equipment following an attack.
According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, airlines have been instructed to promptly adjust their flight schedules and provide passengers with necessary support in case of delays or cancellations. This includes services mandated by federal aviation regulations, such as meals, beverages, and hotel accommodations.
Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin also ordered coordination between air carriers and Russian Railways (OAO RZD) and the Unified Transport Directorate. Additional railway and bus transport will be deployed to transport passengers affected by flight cancellations.
At present, airports in Astrakhan, Vladikavkaz, Volgograd, Gelendzhik, Grozny, Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Magas, Mineralnye Vody, Nalchik, Sochi, Stavropol, and Elista have temporarily suspended operations.
The Ministry of Transport announced that a decision on the resumption of air service to southern regions will be made in the near future. It is expected that flights will initially operate with limited frequency.
The extensive restrictions were caused by adjustments to the regional center in Rostov-on-Don, which coordinates air traffic in southern Russia. According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, the changes were prompted by the impact of Ukrainian drones on the administrative building of the "Air Navigation of Southern Russia" branch.
