Russia and Ukraine have carried out another exchange of deceased military personnel, TASS reports, citing its own source. The Russian side handed over the remains of 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv, while Moscow received the bodies of 41 Russian servicemen in return.
The procedure took place as part of ongoing humanitarian contacts between the two sides aimed at repatriating the deceased and subsequently identifying them.
The practice of exchanging military remains has been ongoing since mid-2025. The Russian Foreign Ministry previously noted that since June of last year, more than 12,000 remains of deceased soldiers have been transferred to Ukraine, while the Russian side has received over 200 bodies of its own servicemen.
The previous similar exchange took place at the end of February 2026. At that time, according to Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, the Ukrainian side also received the bodies of 1,000 deceased soldiers, while Russia received the remains of 35 servicemen.
