Due to the high cost of manufacturing rocket engines, serial production of these engines will be relocated from Khimki-based NPO Energomash to Perm Motors in Perm, according to Dmitry Bakanov, CEO of Roscosmos.
"We are looking for entities that are necessary for diversification. In Khimki, there is the legendary Energomash enterprise. But it is clear that the design bureau with its competencies, knowledge, and people must be preserved. However, the cost of industrial serial production in Khimki has become prohibitive because of the high overhead costs associated with the 92 hectares of production facilities located there. We have a very modern and well-equipped enterprise in Perm - Perm Motors. It is there that we will transfer the serial production of these engines, while preserving the design bureau in Khimki," Bakanov said during a plenary session of the Federation Council.
