### Counterfeit Banknotes Circulation in Russia Falls by 20% in 2025 The number of counterfeit banknotes in circulation in Russia decreased by 20% in 2025, according to the Central Bank of Russia (CBR). The regulator reported that a total of 6,565 counterfeit notes were detected during the year, representing one fake note per million genuine ones. The most frequently counterfeited banknotes were the 5,000 ruble (62%) and 1,000 ruble (31%) denominations. The highest circulation of counterfeit notes was observed in the Central Federal District (CFO), Southern Federal District (SFO), and Northwestern Federal District (NWFDO). In contrast, the number of counterfeit U.S. dollars increased by 44% over the year, with a total of 2,703 fake bills detected.
