New National Park Established in Zaporizhzhia Region Covering Over 16,700 Hectares

In the Zaporizhzhia region, a new federal-level specially protected natural area has been established – the "Veliky Lug" National Park. The decision aims to preserve unique ecosystems and natural heritage of the steppe zone in the region.
The national park is located within the boundaries of the Vasilivka municipal district. Its total area exceeds 16,700 hectares.
The flora and fauna of "Veliky Lug" are characterized by a high level of biodiversity. The park is home to more than 300 rare plant species, two of which are listed in the Red Book of Russia (a national list of endangered species). Within the protected area, over 1,400 animal species inhabit, including 10 bird species and 5 insect species with protected status.
