### DDoS Attacks in Russia Doubled in 2025, Reaching Over 21,000 Incidents
Russia recorded more than 21,000 Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks in 2025, a 100% increase from the previous year, according to data from the Center for Monitoring and Management of Public Communication Networks, which is subordinate to Roskomnadzor (the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media). This information was reported by the Russian business daily *Kommersant*.
Experts noted that the share of foreign malicious traffic remains consistently high, particularly from countries such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Indonesia, and Taiwan.
"These countries are key global hubs for hosting and cloud services, making them a convenient platform for deploying elements of botnets. However, the geography of the traffic does not reflect the actual location of the attack organizers," explained Roskomnadzor officials.
A trend has also been observed where attackers are shifting their focus from noisy network loads to targeted attacks on business-critical functions, aiming to overload web servers and render websites or web applications inoperable.
The telecommunications and financial sectors were the most heavily affected by DDoS attacks in 2025, with credit organizations accounting for 30% of such attacks, telecom companies for 35%, and government structures for 13%. Notably, 42% of all attacks were at the application level, with retail leading this category at 34%, followed by the financial sector at 26%, and telecom at 18%.
