Cryptocurrencies will never become a payment method in Russia and can only exist as an investment instrument, said Anatoly Aksakov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets, according to TASS.
"It is important to understand that cryptocurrencies will never become money within our country. They can only be used as an investment instrument. If something is paid for, it will only be in rubles," TASS quoted him as saying.
Earlier, Central Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina stated that cryptocurrencies cannot be used for payments within Russia, but their use in foreign trade settlements may be possible under an experimental legal regime.
