The State Duma may discuss the introduction of mandatory labeling of fuel containing ethanol. This is necessary to avoid speculation. In addition, authorities may be required to inform the population about the possible consequences of using such fuel. This was reported by RIA, citing the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, Yuri Stankevich.
Currently, changes are being developed in Russia that allow the use of ethanol in gasoline production, but only with an acceptable share of up to 10%. Previously, only 1% was allowed.
In addition, an amendment has been adopted at the second reading stage, which eliminates excise duty on denatured ethanol for the production of high-octane gasoline.
However, Stankevich is confident that all this can only be temporary measures. Not all oil companies agree with them. According to him, European long-term practice shows that the use of ethanol is not too harmful. At the same time, drivers, seeing the labeling, will be able to make their own decision about the feasibility of refueling.
«I am confident that labeling fuel with added ethanol is necessary. As well as public clarifications from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Rosstandart about the consequences of the decision made. An open position of the departments will help avoid speculation and calm public opinion», said Yuri Stankevich.
