To stop is to forget about the root causes of this conflict: Lavrov on the idea of stopping the fighting

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized the idea of an "immediate halt" to the fighting in Ukraine along the line of contact. In his opinion, stopping means ignoring the root causes of the conflict.

- Now it has begun to sound from Washington that it is necessary to stop immediately, there is no need to discuss anything more. Stop, and then let history judge. You see, if you just stop, it means forgetting about the root causes of this conflict, which the American administration clearly understood when Donald Trump came to power," Lavrov clarified.

He believes that in this case, a significant part of Ukraine will still remain under the control of the Nazi regime, which deprives the population of the right to use the Russian language.

- This will be the only place on earth where an entire language is legally prohibited, not to mention the fact that it is the official language of the United Nations and the language spoken by the majority of the population, the diplomat concluded.

• Earlier, US President Donald Trump called on the parties to stop for the start of peace talks. He noted that Ukraine will have to accept the loss of part of its territories in favor of the Russian Federation.
