The EU Council has approved additional mechanisms to prevent Russian gas from entering the EU. A ban on its transit to other countries through the territory of the European Union will be established from January 1, 2026. This is stated in a message on the website of the Council of the EU.

The requirement for importers to confirm the origin of gas starting from January 1, 2026 has also been approved. It is also planned to introduce a ban on oil supplies from the Russian Federation from January 1, 2028.

In addition, the EU Council agreed complete refusal from purchases of Russian gas from January 1, 2028.
