Speaking at the XI St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures, Vladimir Putin identified the preservation of common historical memory as one of the most important tasks in the field of culture. According to him, it is memory that brings peoples together and forms their spiritual bonds based on mutual understanding and trust. The President stressed that Russia pays priority attention to cultural and humanitarian issues. This topic, as Putin noted, was discussed, among other things, at the recent meeting of the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the context of countering extremist ideology. The Head of State warned that such an ideology poses serious threats and can lead to tragic consequences. Separately, Vladimir Putin dwelled on the significance of the memory of the Great Patriotic War. He stated that pride and gratitude to its participants have become an integral part of Russian culture and are reflected in works of art. According to the President, these works play a key role in educating young people about their sense of responsibility for their country and the security of the international community.
