Russian retail is waiting for hybridization, where neither online nor offline will be able to win an absolute victory. By 2030, e-commerce will account for up to 30% of the market, but physical stores will retain their importance due to their unique advantages. Such a forecast According to Petr Shcherbachenko, an associate professor at the Financial University, the growth of the online segment will be fueled by fierce competition on marketplaces, which is already leading to a partial reduction in prices for consumers.
At the same time, the expert warns that it is not worth waiting for a global reduction in the cost of all goods. The final price may be influenced by external factors, primarily logistical costs.
Despite the strong growth of online commerce, offline retail is not losing ground. According to analysts, in the first half of 2025, demand for physical stores is returning, while the average receipt is growing by 10%.
Experts agree that the future belongs to hybrid models that blur the boundaries between formats. Natalia Nazarova, Associate Professor at the Department of Taxes and Tax Administration at the Financial University, sees the power of marketplaces in their service: unlimited assortment, smart recommendation algorithms, fast delivery with different payment methods and the ability to compare prices from hundreds of sellers in one click. Irina Poddubnaya, an e-commerce expert, agrees with her, clarifying that only those players who can competently organize online and offline trading formats will be in the lead.
