Moscow and Tehran are developing cooperation within the framework of the North-South international transport corridor. This was stated by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref.
Mishustin noted that Russia is actively working on the development of transport logistics within the North-South corridor. This strategic route will provide a link between the countries of the Eurasian region. The Intergovernmental Agreement on the creation of the North-South international multimodal transport corridor was signed by Russia, India and Iran in 2000. 14 more countries later joined the project. Its goal is to attract transit cargo from India, Iran and the Persian Gulf countries to Europe through Russia. This will reduce the distance by more than two times compared to the sea route through the Suez Canal, which will reduce the time and cost of transportation. The project now unites the transport systems of several states.
