Former deputy of the Kursk Regional Duma Maxim Vasiliev was detained on suspicion of fraud on a particularly large scale during the construction of defensive structures, they inform "Kursk News"/a>with reference to TASS.

According to the source, Vasiliev is suspected of involvement in embezzlement of budget funds allocated for the construction of fortifications in the border areas. Already on April 21, the investigation intends to petition the court to choose a preventive measure for the detainee.

As previously reported by the media, Vasiliev testified against the former governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, and his ex-deputy, Alexei Dedov, who were arrested in the same case. According to investigators, the organized group stole more than 1 billion rubles allocated for the construction of a defensive line on the border with Ukraine.

Let us remind you that a criminal case on embezzlement during the construction of fortifications was initiated in April 2024. Several high-ranking officials and representatives of contracting organizations have already been detained as part of the investigation.
