Up to 10 Chinese car brands may withdraw from the Russian car market. This is reported by "Kommersant".
So, the Chinese Kaiyi, Oting, SWM, MG, VGV and Livan may leave the Russian Federation. The main reasons are high loan rates, low demand, and overstocked warehouses.Experts note that brands selling less than 1,000 cars per year have low chances of survival in the Russian Federation.
Dealers have the same opinion. They believe that if sales for six months do not exceed 20 cars, as, for example, with the brands Kaiyi, Skywell, SWM, Haima and VGV, or one per month, as is the case with Ora, then it will be difficult to compete with the market leaders in the Russian Federation. It is noted that the monthly maintenance of the service costs dealers more than 800 thousand rubles.
According to a study by Gazprombank Car Leasing, in January-March 2025, more than 210 Chinese car dealerships closed in Russia due to the loss of investors. The annual increase in closures has tripled. The Bestune car dealerships (26 closures), Kaiyi (20), and DFM (16) were the most closed. Geely, Jaecoo, Jetour and LiAuto were also among the TOP 10 brands in terms of the number of closures.
