The US State Department and the Treasury Department are considering the option of strengthening sanctions against Russia. This is reported by the newspaper The Wall Street Journal with reference to a source in the State Department.

According to him, the agencies plan to take this step if US President Donald Trump considers that Russia is not interested in a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, the US president issued a decree extending for a year the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by his predecessor Joe Biden.
