The increase in potato prices is observed against the background of a low base in 2023, when a record harvest was harvested. This is how the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture commented on the current price situation.

The ministry noted that last year Russia harvested 7.3 million tons of potatoes, which is at the level of long-term averages. Currently, manufacturers sell it at 32.5 rubles per kilogram, which, for example, is 3 rubles more expensive than in 2022. In retail, potatoes are sold at 69.9 rubles per kilogram.

"Thus, a significant increase in prices is observed only in relation to the low base of 2023, due to the record potato harvest in the country," the Ministry of Agriculture reported.

It is expected that in 2025, in order to increase potato production, its acreage will increase by 6.5 thousand hectares, to 286 thousand hectares.

The ministry added that, given the seasonality of domestic production, the Russian market traditionally receives additional imported new potatoes from friendly countries for the first half of the year.

Earlier, Maxim Reshetnikov, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, was asked to deal with rising potato prices and introduce a temporary price restriction.

By the end of 2024, according to Rosstat, potatoes became the most expensive product, their price increased by 92%.
