The Central Bank of the Russian Federation proposes to ban payments in cryptocurrencies outside the experimental regime. This was stated by Central Bank Chairman Elvira Nabiullina during a press conference following the results of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia.

In addition, according to the head of the Central Bank, the regulator maintains its position on the impossibility of using cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.

As a reminder, the Bank of Russia has sent proposals on regulating investments in cryptocurrencies to the government for discussion.Specially qualified investors, citizens whose investments in securities and deposits exceed 100 million rubles or whose annual income is more than 50 million rubles, will be able to participate in the experiment. Companies that have the status of qualified investors according to current legislation are also allowed to participate in the experiment. For financial organizations wishing to work with cryptocurrencies, the Bank of Russia will establish special regulatory requirements taking into account the risks of this asset. The introduction of an experimental legal regime is aimed at achieving several goals: increasing transparency of the cryptocurrency market, setting standards for the provision of services, as well as expanding investment opportunities for experienced investors willing to accept increased risks.
