The EU countries in the Baltic are preparing legal measures allowing them to detain vessels allegedly belonging to the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation. This was reported by Politico newspaper with reference to European officials and diplomats.
The upcoming legislative framework should allow these countries to seize a ship entering the Baltic Sea in the event of environmental damage due to an oil spill or damage to underwater cables and other critical marine infrastructure.
In addition, it is planned to create a list of reliable marine insurers. Vessels insured by other companies not included in this list will be detained.
