Gubernatorial resignations are expected in a number of Russian regions. This is reported by Vedomosti with reference to several sources in the presidential administration.

President Vladimir Putin is already holding personal meetings with the heads of regions who will run for a new term in the fall of 2025. To date, 8 out of 13 such meetings have been held.

Sources claim that all changes will be spot-on. So far, the heads of the Leningrad (Alexander Drozdenko) and Kostroma regions (Sergey Sitnikov), Chuvashia (Oleg Nikolaev) and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Yuri Bezdudny) are in limbo.

Resignations may also affect governors whose terms of office expire after 2025 in regions where there should be no scheduled elections this year. For example, the head of the Sverdlovsk Region, Evgeny Kuyvashev, and the head of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, may resign ahead of schedule.

Earlier in February 2025, the governor of the Novgorod Region unexpectedly resigned Andrey Nikitin. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Transport. The first vice-governor was appointed as the acting governor of the Novgorod Region.https://business-magazine.online/fn_1628655.html">Alexandra Dronova.
