Mishustin approved the general plan for the placement of electric power facilities until 2042

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has approved a master plan for the placement of electric power facilities until 2042. According to this plan, it is planned to build a new power unit No. 8 with a 3+ generation water-cooled reactor (VVER) with a capacity of 1.2 GW at Novovoronezh NPP by 2037.

Preparations for the construction of the fifth stage of the nuclear power plant began in 2023. As part of the preparation, 1,700 hectares of land in Kashirsky and Ostrogozhsky districts were included in Novovoronezh. In 2024, the project was publicly discussed.
