The Investigative Committee of Russia announced the detention of former Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, Army General Pavel Popov, who was once part of the team of former Minister Sergei Shoigu. This was reported by the press service of the department.

It is known from the case materials that Pavel Popov was responsible for the work of the Patriot Park, enriching himself at his expense, acting jointly with the director of the park Vyacheslav Akhmedov and Deputy Head of the Main Department of Innovative Development of the Ministry of Defense Vladimir Shesterov.

Pavel Popov is accused of organizing construction and repair work, as well as the supply of various material assets to himself on a country plot in the Krasnogorsk district at the expense of the park. Moreover, the general forced the heads of private companies to carry out construction and installation work in his luxurious apartments. Pavel Popov and his family members have found many real estate properties in prestigious areas of Moscow, the Moscow Region and the Krasnodar Territory. The total cost of houses, apartments and land plots is more than 500 million rubles. The legality of the acquisition of all this property is currently being checked by the IC staff. A criminal case is being investigated against the general under the article "fraud". It is not reported how much damage was caused.

Recall that Pavel Popov was dismissed from his post by presidential decree on June 17, simultaneously with First Deputy Minister of Defense Ruslan Tsalikov, and two deputy ministers Tatyana Shevtsova and Nikolai Pankov. Popov has worked in his post for almost 11 years, since November 2013. He was awarded the Orders of Alexander Nevsky, Honor and Friendship for Services to the Fatherland, IV degree.

The detention of Pavel Popov was another link in the total defeat of the team of former Russian Defense Minister, Army General Sergei Shoigu. Many of the dismissed and detained heads of the ministry, – people with whom he maintained the closest contacts and relationships.
