The EU has begun preparing the 16th package of sanctions against Russia, which it plans to adopt on the next anniversary of the start of its military operation. This time, the restrictions may affect Russian aluminum and LNG. This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency, citing diplomatic sources.
The EU believes that it is impractical to impose sanctions against Russian pipeline gas, as some European countries, such as Hungary and Slovakia, depend on supplies from Russia. But the ban on LNG supplies from the Russian Federation, according to officials, may be feasible. At the same time, it is not known whether Spain, Belgium and France, the main European importers of Russian fuel, will support this proposal.
"As for the ban on the supply of Russian aluminum, while European officials cannot clearly determine the timing and scale of sanctions, they may be introduced in stages. The EU is also discussing further restrictions on Russian courts and disconnecting a number of banks from the SWIFT system.
