Russia has extended its "garage amnesty" program for another five years, but there will be no further extensions, announced Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council.
"We passed a law which is necessary and important for citizens. Not everyone has taken advantage of their rights. We have extended the law again for five years, but we need to make it clear to regional and municipal authorities and citizens: the window of opportunity is five years. There should be no legally unregistered property or land plots," Matviyenko stated.
She urged Russian citizens to take responsibility if they are interested in legalizing their property and called on regional authorities to assist people in sorting out their documents.
During the meeting, it was noted that the main reason for denying citizens land plots for garages is the lack of documents confirming the allocation of these plots. People are forced to resort to legal disputes. In such cases, regions have been given the authority to establish an additional list of documents that will confirm the compliance of the land plot with the conditions of the garage amnesty. Currently, only 15 regions have provided such opportunities.
- The garage amnesty was last extended in 2026, and its validity is limited until September 1, 2031.
