Russia may introduce a fee for using international data traffic. This initiative is being discussed by the Ministry of Digital Development in collaboration with telecom operators, according to a report by Kommersant, citing a source familiar with the discussions.
The proposal involves charging for data usage exceeding a certain limit, specifically above 50 GB on 5G networks. The ministry had initially planned for the system to be operational by October, but operators currently lack the technical capability to implement it, as 5G traffic still runs through LTE networks. Therefore, implementing this solution in the near future is unlikely.
