Ex-Bryansk Vice Governor Fails to Overturn 10-Year Sentence for Defense Barricade Embezzlement

Moscow City Court has rejected the appeals of former Bryansk region vice-governor Simonenko and three of his accomplices, upholding their convictions, according to "Bryansk News". They were found guilty of abusing their official powers during the construction of defensive structures on the border with Ukraine in August-September 2024.

In July this year, Simonenko and former head of the regional capital construction agency, Evgeniy Zhura, were each sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison. Two business contractors received slightly shorter terms.

None of the defendants admitted guilt, but the court dismissed all their appeals. Additionally, following a lawsuit by the Treasury and Ministry of Defense, the convicted individuals must repay damages amounting to 1.4 billion rubles.
