Ruble Sheds 0.1% Against Currency Basket on Monday

The Russian ruble is experiencing a minor decline of around 0.1% against a basket of foreign currencies on Monday.

Interbank trading shows the following rates: the ruble against the Chinese yuan (CNY/RUB) is trading at 12.90 rubles per yuan.

The ruble-dollar pair (USD/RUB) is currently at 86.52 rubles per U.S. dollar.

It is worth noting that the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) has announced that as of December 27, 2024, it will set official exchange rates for foreign currencies against the ruble based on consolidated data from both exchange and over-the-counter segments of the foreign exchange market. This change, outlined in CBR Regulation No. 6956-U, is aimed at improving the representativeness of official rates in light of the growing volume of off-exchange transactions.

Starting from June 8, 2026, the CBR revised its methodology for calculating the official euro-ruble exchange rate. Instead of using direct quotes for the euro-ruble pair, the CBR now calculates the rate through a cross-currency formula using data from the European Central Bank (ECB). The new formula is EUR/RUB = USD/RUB × EUR/USD (based on ECB data).
